If you're using internet explorer,  go to Tools->Internet options,  under 
the advanced tab,
and be sure that the option to "print background colors and images" is not 
checked.
That might help a little.

I agree,  there are a lot of web pages that are way too busy to the eye.
My pet peave is animated GIFs.
