This reminds me of a story I heard from an amateur friend who was also a pilot
for British Airways.

Apparently on of the pilots had built a love nest with a stewardess - location
unknown, but somewhere in the UK.

Anyway, his wife found out about it and told him to end the relationship. So he
dutifully announced to the stewardess that he was off on a two week tour of duty
and when he got back she had to have left the apartment.

Apparently, she left, but as she walked out of the door she dialled the speaking
clock in Washington DC and left the phone off the hook.

The pilot returned after his tour to what I gather was a 'non-trivial' phone
bill.
