I once worked at the Santa Monica airport (Douglas Aircraft plant). 
Lots of neat planes there.  For those interested in newer aircraft, I
was at the Van Nuys airport one day and saw a F-5 take off and it
looked like he made a 90 degree turn while still over the
runway--amazing!  I didn't know there were any private F-5s and found
out it had been reconstructed from wrecks.
