My goodness the paranoia runs deep!
I'm not saying it couldn't/doesn't happen, but if/when it does I'll bet that the individual in question isn't the most squeaky-clean person you've ever seen.
It ain't perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than most, and if you don't like it you get your opportunity to make changes every few years. My firm belief is that if you find that there's more wrong with your country than there is right you can either try to fix it, find another country that will have you, or get out the Crayola's and color.
