Raises quite a number of interesting comparable issues. Neither of our
parliaments [OZ, Britain - the same] have approved this action.

I can't speak for Britain, but this will be the only time Australia has gone to
war with a divided parliament since Vietnam.

With the same consequences. Some feel a short war will exacerbate things. It
won't, the wounds will merely be much deeper to resurface later at a much more
inconvenient time.

Parliament meets next Tuesday [Monday your time]. I'm hoping against hope, a
number of government members have the guts [a la UK Labor, to cross the floor].
Likewise a number of the opposition could do the same the other way. On assumed
numbers, a call to war would certainly be defeated [on a conscience basis]. It
won't, it'll be defeated on party lines, maybe with abstentions.

Our PM John Howard is literally playing with fire, a divided parliament, a
divided nation, alienating fragile relationships in our region where we are
already widely regarded as "up ourselves bullies" and, the "deputy sheriff of
the USA".

Stupidity knows no bounds...
