Things aren't looking good at all in Canberra again. The army has been called
in, evacuation centres are now being evacuated. All of the northern area of the
city is at risk, twelve suburbs.

North east Victoria isn't faring any better. If it links up with fires in our
state and then continues on to Canberra, then the south of the city can be in
big trouble.

To give you some perspective of this, the equivalent of some small european
countries or USA states have been totally burnt out.

Locally, in my own region, within 20 Km radius of QTH [excluding the sea <G>]
we have 19 separate fires at this minute. You can really smell the bludger and
of course the sky is eerie. Perversely, I love the smell of burning eucalypt.

Around 7:30 p.m. last night, because of smoke filtering, the sun was a giant
orange ball in the sky.

I'm on alert for falling burning embers, leaves and bark. Thankfully only light
sea breezes at present but that could easily change in a moment.
