Tokyo and Osaka the most expensive cities, Paris at the 10th world rank [ 2003-
01-16 08:40 ]
HONG KONG (Reuters) - the Japanese cities of Tokyo and Osaka remain at the head
of the last classification of the most expensive cities in the world. The
strengh of its currency makes the Euro zone more expensive than the previous
years, according to a new study published Thursday.
Oslo takes to Hong Kong the title of the third most expensive city, according
to the investigation "Worldwide Cost of Living Survey", realized by an
organization sitting in London, the EIU (Economist Intelligence Links),
published Thursday.
Hong Kong and Libreville, in Gabon, are ex-aequo for the fourth place. The
study does not specify why this African capital rises in such a place. London,
for its part, regresses from the fifth place in December 2001 to the seventh in
December 2002, while remaining the most expensive city of European Union.
In a general way, the reinforcement of the single currency makes the cities of
the Euro zone more expensive than one year before. Paris, which is at the 10th
world rank, remains the most expensive city of the Euro zone.
For Europe as a whole, Bucharest is the least expensive. Concerning North
America, New-York, at the 11th world rank, arrives first.

BTW, I have done my homework and the 2 facts which were puzzling me yesterday
