Hi guys,
Once agn I have opened Pandora's box.
I am aware that we have radical different points of view on the
"weapons" subject but at least I have not been shot down as I
used to be on the "other list" 2 years ago. And that's a very good
point for us.
- Is it false that in the US, pupils start to wear bullet-proof vests
when going at school ? In France, it is not yet the case BUT for 2-3
years we have more and more injured and killed pupils 'coz other pupil
was wearing "Dad's gun" or some "Dirty Bird" was thinking he had the
right to shoot a pupil who has taken his seat in the classroom. This
was absolutely unknown here before year 2000. 2-3 years ago our medias
started reporting such kind of events from the USA and 10-12 months
later it started to happen HERE. That's the average needed time (+-10
months) for "something" to cross the Ocean from your side to ours.
- For +-6-7 years, Police forces have almost lost their "power" against
the average population. Main reason being that the average people has
understand he can buy and wear a weapon. And THIS leads to the increase
of criminality.
<<
the courts have held time and again that the police are not obligated
to defend everyone at all times
>>
Where is the "Serve and Protect" leitmotiv we can see on police cars
in US films ???
<<
Also, historically, governments that don't trust the people always limit access to
weapons.
>>
Can you give me the name of a country where the govt _can_ trust the
people ? I am definitely not sure US govt is the one to be named. Sri.
I do not trust my govt, I do not see why it should trust me. And I am
OK with this. I do not consider the human being as trustable. IMHO.
- "Silly news" : due to new regulation against terrorism/security abt to
be voted in France, there is a reinforcement of the restrictions abt
weapons. And the "collateral damage" is that old military airplanes
(WWI or WWII or whatever it can be) may become outlawed bcoz they are
classified as "war weapons".
Now, I do agree with you, this IS silly.
Yes, I love airplanes (civilians, not military ones).
<<
Criminals in prison have been questioned on this point, and their only fear is
confronting an armed intended victim.
>>
But surveys (at least F ones) show too that "death sentence" does not
fear them. But that's an other subject...other brainstorming.
<<
Today in Poland there is more freedom of gun ownership than in all of
Europe.
>>
After Franco's death, Spain has opened a lot of "doors". They are now
worrying abt drug consumption, among many other things. But this is a
very simplistic point of view, I know.
Speaking of East Europe, I do not know abt Poland. I can tell you abt
Bulgaria. 10 years ago, as a tourist, I could walk in Plovdiv's
streets (2nd largest city of the country) at night w/o worrying abt
nothing. Now ... when it is dark (and even earlier), it's btr to take
a taxi, and preferably not alone. (And that "kills" me bcoz I love
walking in the streets, even at night).
But yes, now in Bulgarian daily newspapers you can see ads/commercials
for weapons. That's what we can call "democracy". There is a specific LZ
word for that : "Demonarciya". (Demo_craty + Anarchy. Some "demon" in
it too, btw).
<<
If I were to be presented with an intruder in my house in the small hours of
the morning ...
>>
... I would not care abt my video, my TV set or even my radio gear.
I _think_ the primary goal of a burglar is to steal, not to kill. But
I may be wrong, once agn.
Only "hiccough" being if the buglar starts to look after someone of my
family. Then, I do agree with Paul. But my 1st reaction would be to find a
way for my family to escape. "Slight" nuance.
(Note, FWIW: I am _not_ the "head" of any family).
On my side, this will be my last "public post" on this subject.
I have opened the box, I personnaly vote to close it agn.
Feel free to discuss freely on the subject, but pse remain SOC & kind
& polite. "Big Brother OJD" is monitoring.
