There must have been a break, then, because I have in my posession a certificate that K4GRD and I earned in 1968 for our operation in Glades County, FL in the 1968 FQP. That was in the days when there were few mobiles and there was no regular ham activity from Glades County. At that time, the FQP was sponsored by Florida Skip Magazine. If my memory is still more or less intact, the contest was won that year by W4DFU, the club station at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Our Glades County operation was the highest scoring portable operation.

I missed this year's FQP because I was (actually still am) doing tourist stuff on the West Coast--my first visit ever to Seattle and Portland.
