[SOC] Religion

Here's my take on the subject:
We have free choice, I think, and each of us gets
to choose to believe, or not believe, in any given set
of teachings. Are we all together on that?
Ok. So, in effect, what each of us believes to be
true, as regards religion, is true for us because
we've chosen to believe it, not because it's
inherently "true." Does that make sense, or at least
seem to follow from the first bit? Good.
Since we SOC types here encompass a diverse set of
folks, with diverse beliefs/non-beliefs, I suggest
that discussions involving religious piety and parsing
of quotations from various old writings move off-list,
or to the appropriate list for those who like such
things.
I, for one, wouldn't presume to tell someone else
what's "true" in my belief system, or bore or nauseate
them with my deeply-felt convictions here on the SOC
list, or anywhere, unless requested. If someone did
request such an outpouring, I'd sure do it off-list.
Does that make sense?
Thanks for listening.

Lloyd, K3ESE
