Actually I doubt it has anything to do with DoS. We all face DoS on a daily
basis along with all other kinds of crap you have to put up with.
I think the whole QTH / QSL system is overloaded. Last time I received an email
from Al Waller, K3TKJ it indicated funds were available until the end of the
year and costs were exceeding donations [as I understood it]. There is no room
for improvement.
I feel for Al, he has done tremendous work for the AR community at great
financial cost to himself.
What I recommend is that Claude and I set up the alternative list, leave it
dormant but ready to immediately activate in the event of it becoming necessary.
Much will depend upon the next email Al sends out.
Actually, a mail list consumes relatively little bandwidth in the big picture.
SOC, at a guess, would probably in one year be the equivalent of one days gif
and jpg files I serve up.
Traffic's the killer, popularity comes at a price, over 3 sites I'm probably up
to nearly 40 gig a month and about to move [with considerable trepidation] the
whole of Electronics Tutorials over to a new server today, when I feel
enthusiastic enough for the whole hour long job.
