[SOC] Wet mail anyone?

We don't have to worry about "mailbox spam" so to speak.. it's illegal to put
anything in a mailbox here unless it goes through the USPS. About the "universal
key" deal, I don't think they've got anything like that over here... at least not in
my neck of the woods :^)

Hello !

Once again a way to "deal" our different way of living from the other side of
the ocean ;o))

Rob, I was not aware that your mail box was so ... "closed".
Here (and there also, for sure !) , the mailboxes are just the way Rob wants to
make his own : there is a slot on the front side so that the guy (should it be
the postman or the guy from these "$@*! privates cies putting 3 kg of
commercial ads in the box) can do his job the quickest way (no door to open).
The only problem is this (and BTW only with this f** man of the commercial ads)
: as he is paid "a la piece" (the more he puts in the boxes, the more Euros he
gets), he ofently does not take the time to put the ads IN the box but just
doing some "new age" decoration of your mailbox, understand : the ads are half
inside and half outside.
That is all OK in dry days : you can take all ads and directly put them in the
garbage collector.
Now, just imagine it is a rainy day ... and imagine your K1B (Hi Bob !!) or
VK6ML QSL being IN the mailbox ... do you see what I mean ?!! :o((( Despite the
fact that the slot does have a cover, from time to time it does not prevent for
"some" water to enter the mailbox. That is the negative side of the whole
system.

Now should you have a package, 2 ways :
 - if your mailbox is of the new standard, the postman has an universal key to
open the box and put the package inside (assuming your box is big enough),
- if you do not have such a mail box, you will get a "package is waiting for
you" advice and you will take it directly at the post office. This is if you are
not at home when the postman is passing by your house, otherwise he should ring
at your door, except if he is affraid of your dog (not a joke ... some postmen
have been injured by crazy dogs jumping over while the guy was still OUT in the
street)

I remember now seeing in some US films those mailboxes with an arm and a red
flag on the side. The old fashioned way to say "You have a new message" ;o))

Ok, and now what ??
Now nothing ... that was just a way to make you spend some seconds reading
stupid stuff coming to you from the Froggy land.

A bientot !

I'm gonna ask my mailman if I can just put a lock on the door and cut a slot in
it
for him to slip the mail through... surely that's ok...
