Curious title for quality content, nope haven't heard it but with that line up...

Poor old Spike passed away very recently, he lived quite nearby to here for a great many
years at a place called Woy Woy, just down the road.

At some official presentation by the Queen some idiot journalist, who should have known
better, asked him why he was selected:

"Because I'm the only male in Woy Woy who owns a suit"

He always wanted his epitaph to read:

"See, I told you I was ill..."

Apparently his wish will be honoured, thankfully.

If you haven't read any of his books relating to his WW2 experiences I thoroughly
recommend them for the humour and pathos.

In particular, "Mussolini - his part in my downfall" - not a good period for Spike who was
a bombardier [artillery] and I think a radio op as well!. Maybe the other way around, a
radio op attached to artillery.

One excerpt I can sort of remember goes something like this:

"Our fellows would shoot at anything in the sky and on this occasion brought down an
American P-38. Spike had missed it but was on hand to happily see the pilot retrieved
undamaged from the wreckage.

When he [the angry pilot] was being returned to his base in a jeep, Spike called out:

"Thanks for the visit, come again real soon, but give a bit more notice, I missed the best
part..."

I loved him and the goons.
