You really need to get X-windows working, then you have a lot of choices. 
There is a Netscape Communicator for Linux. My favorite email program is 
XFMAIL (http://www.xfmail.org). Free, of course, and has folders, filters, 
multiple sigs, etc.

I also run kmail, which is a client for the KDE desktop interface for X.
