Hello,
Here I am again.
This is said to be a true one, which can be checked at the Canadian Maritime
Office, records of October 1995. I have read it some months ago but the Magic
Email system sent it back to me again today :o))
Script of a radio comm' btwn an US Navy ship and the Canadian Authorities,
Newfoundland area.
US Ship : Pse modify your coarse 15 degrees north to avoid a collision. Over.
Canadians : Pse you should modify your route 15 degrees south to avoid a
collision. Over.
US Ship : Here is the captain of a ship of the US Navy. I repeat : pse change
your route. Over.
Canadians : No, change your route, please. Over.
US ship : HERE IS THE USS LINCOLN - AIRCRAFT-CARRIER, THE 2nd BIGGEST SHIP OF
THE NAVY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. WE HAVE WITH US 3 DESTROYERS, 3
CRUISERS AND A LOT OF ESCORT SHIPS. I ASK YOU TO CHANGE YOUR ROUTE 15 DEGREES
NORTH OR WE WILL HAVE TO TAKE UNPLEASANT DECISIONS TO INSURE THE SECURITY OF
OUR SHIP. OVER.
Canadians : Here, it is a lighthouse. Over.
US Ship : ... (i.e. silence).
:o)))
Ok, ok .. it is not fair, I know ! To help you smile a bit I just want to
remind you that "our" aircraft-carrier ("Charles de Gaulle") is some kind of
funny big boat just unable to travel from "A" to "B" w/o having problems so
that she has to come back to "A" using winds' power.
BTW, I miss the lighthouse reference for the LH award, help !
