Let me add another mostly irrelevant comment to the discussion of
callsigns. My original call was K4IIN, a truly awful call on fone and
not that much better on CW. If anyone is thinking of applying for a 1
x 3 vanity call, my advice would be to avoid any double letters. I
cannot tell you how many times people copied my call as K4INN (and
wrote the QSL that way.)

Speaking of vanity calls, my son in San Francisco applied for and got
K6BAY, which I consider a great three-letter call. I couldn't believe
that some club hadn't scarfed that one up long ago!
