> Nothing wrong with the Marseillaise...sounds just fine to me...

Some years ago during a TV program, they made some comparisons btwn the
different versions used since 1970+ and the so-called original one.

The version used during the years of our "nude crane" (the one who was a good
friend of some guy called Bokassa, they were hunting together in Africa and the
latter offered some jewels to his F friend. This story has here became a State
Scandal but of course the Pdt did not resigned) was looking like some kind of
Tango or maybe Menuet compared to the other ones.
Then followed the "Socialist Version" (I mean from 1981 till 1995) which was
more "aggresive" and since 1995, as far as I remember, we are now running with
something almost equivalent to the original.

3 years ago, (so yet with Chiras as president), some people (I mean MPs or Gvt
Staff) were arguing that now that the Cold War is over and that the World is
looking for peace, maybe it was time to change a bit the lyrics of the
Marseillaise for the Military song may have a strange effect on young people
and also how strange it may sound to sing "Walk, walk and may the impure blood
waters/soaks our furrows" just before a Soccer match ...
These debates were rising just after the last World Cup ...

By that time, the now well-known (for you !) Le Pen was yelling and also said
that it has been a pity that almost none of our sport men (at 1st place Soccer
players) was able to sing the Hymn just bcoz they do not know the lyrics. He
then added : "rather logical when you look at the members of this team ... a
very few of them are F natives".

Besides the racist comments, I just want to say that IMHO an huge part of the F
population does _not_ know the lyrics of our Hymn except the 1st part (4 first
sentences).
I am part of this huge part ...

>then buy some British beef :-)

Chris .... :o))
