Another thought on not-quite-resonant antennas... If you are only
radiating a few Watts you can work the world - qrp'ers do it every day. So,
if you are running maybe 100 watts or more to a not-quite-resonant antenna,
and radiating only a few watts, you may not even notice but can't break
pile-ups, etc. People work mobile on 40, and even 80 and 160 M with success
with inefficient antennas, so you don't have to radiate much power to get
out. For five years all I used was an Argonaut with maybe 2� watts output,
and never felt handicapped. I've even heard of guys making contacts loading
into a dummy load - now that's really SOC.
