It's right there with rugby, male field hockey and team handball, all
serious sports in other parts of the world and for which the US fields
national teams of no great consequence. We do better at rowing, producing
some internationally rated 8s; but that sport is not well known across the
country. We field these teams because of the participants love for their
sport, independent of spectators and TV.
By comparison, Women's (American) football, tractor pulls, mud wrestling,
made-for-TV events don't even rise above the noise floor. NASCAR raises the
noise floor, sorry to say.
