Oh there's plenty of devices to "replace" the gasoline engine, they all
just get suppressed because oil holds our economy together! (How's THAT for
a paranoid statement? :^D)

An interesting thread. Nice to see the freedom to hold dissenting views
exercised well.
Perhaps I'm a bit of a 'hawk' but that's easy for me 'cos it won't be me
who
gets killed. I still think it would be a great shame to spill the blood of
thousands of young men when both the USA and ourselves are quite capable of
sending a Tomahawk missile through Saddam Hussein's letter-box from five
hundred miles away.
What is the point of all this technology when we always seem to go back to
20th Century trench warfare at every opportunity?.
If we pray, it should be for god to help the scientists to get fusion up
and
running. All we will need oil for then is to stop the wheels squeaking, and
we could tell the sandy bits of the world to go swivel.
