Hi Sam,

My two DX-100s went for $ 125 at Dayton 5 years ago! Good price. The fellow
who bought them wanted to put together a 50s rig for his Elmer. I gave him
a bunch of new electrolytics and some spare 1625s.

People may wonder why we had two of those 109 Lb behemoths. Well, besides
the "coolness" factor, they were great AM rigs and pretty easy to work on (
for a young man, that is!).

My Collins 75A4 and 32V3 both sold at Richmond a couple of years ago. That
was a nice combo on AM and CW. I still have my Halli S-76 for nostaglia
purposes! The last of that era, an SX-71 and an S-85 went to my grandsons
in hope of lighting a fire. The SX-71 gets regular use, but the S-85
rarely warms up! Batting 500 isn't bad!

I really couldn't part with that SX-71! The fellow who got me started in
ham radio, was a gent named Mason Frankenfield, W3PBR. He was the operator
of the Franklin Institute museum ham station, W3TKQ ( later W3AA), and I
would spend hours at his side in the communications hall. He explained
everything and was patient with this 13 year old! The station was an SX-71,
Viking II, and a surplus SCR-522 for VHF. The had beams for 2, 10, 15, and
20 on a tripod up on the roof, along with some dipoles for 80 and 40. This
was the mid 50s and since the solar max in 1958 was approaching, we worked
the world!

Thanks for the memories!
