All first off, our esteemed treasurer gently reminded my to remember to
greet everyone cheerfully.
As a scout, I should never have forgotten that! Doh! thanks Ren!

Good afternoon!

For all the people that kindly reminded my that there is no conflict
between JOTA/JOTI and the eclipse, my eyes read "October 20-22", my mind
regeistered "August 20-22." My apologies, you all are absolutely right!
We have nearly three months to plan something short and easy in response to
the request from the cub scout pack... should we choose as a club.
This event is fully supported by ARRL. So should we!
And since there is no conflict, I could take the lead if you would like.

In response to one really good question that has been asked several times:
"What training is needed to support a BSA event?"

To specifically support Pastor Walt's request... nothing! We do not need
any training.
All the registered adult leaders will have taken the required "Youth
Protection Training".... We would be their guests.

However for future reference....
This training is available online at 'my.scouting.org.' the training is
only a 1/2 hour long and rivals anything that NMCI and NKO has produced.
Seriously, it's good quality but an easy online course. There is often
temptation to just click through it like a standard NKO course.. All
leaders must take it. The key thing to remember is "two deep." If you have
one child, then have two adults. If you have one adult, then have two
scouts. Past that, always keep the cubs in sight of another adult or
another scout. And that is the primary highlight of YPT.

If we were to set up like Field Day, or just simply run stations at the
museum, scouts and public are invited to join us if they wish... then we do
not need YPT.

Should you decided to be a registered councilor for a merit badge... say
Radio Merit Badge, then you must take the course. Many of you have other
hobbies. Maybe you sail, maybe you work at Historic St. Mary's City.
Maybe you work at the meteorology lab on base. All of these have some Boy
scout merit badge. Merit badge councilors must take YPT. There is a
Venture Crew in Texas that specializes in Amateur Radio. If we were to do
the same, then our leaders must have completed YPT. If you have a son or
daughter and you go on a sanctioned BSA event as one of the leaders, then
you must complete YPT.

Hope that answers your question.
And apologies for the confusion.
