[SMCARA] Ham radio on Linux Mint

Good morning all,

If you don't already use Linux you may want to skip this email because it
won't make much sense. If you're experienced with Linux you may want to
skip it because I'm new to it and might not make much sense either. :)

I was overdue for a new computer so I decided to shrug off the Microsoft
shackles, built my own and have installed Mint 17.1. I've used Ubuntu
occasionally over the years but I'm still at the bottom of the learning
curve so pardon my ignorance.

I tried installing N1MM under Wine but am getting no love at all from it. I
click and it ignores me. So I thought I'd try out a native logger instead
and have been fighting with CQRLog ever since. It's like a 3 Stooges skit
over here today... CQRLog requires mysql-server for the database but Mint
comes with mariadb instead. If I install mysql I'm forced to uninstall
mariadb AND CQRLog. If I reinstall CQRLog it force uninstalls myqsl and
reinstalls mariadb, just to aggravate me I think. Any ideas? Or even
better, any luck getting N1MM to run under Wine?

I haven't downloaded HRD yet but if it wont play nice I'll be looking for
an everyday logging program (like CQRLog *sigh*). At least TQSL seems to
run OK under Wine and importing the certificate was easy. I also use a
program called Run Award Statistics that installed fine, I won't know if it
really functions until I get my master log moved to the new machine.

So, any thoughts? Suggestions on other packages I should check out for ham
radio on my new Minty machine?

Chris - KC3DIG
