  St. Mary's County Dept. of Public Safety - National Weather Service
SKYWARN Class 
  The St. Mary's County Department of Public Safety will be hosting a
SKYWARN class on October 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Leonardtown, to
train citizens to become SKYWARN spotters. SKYWARN is a volunteer program
which trains citizens to become severe weather spotters. These volunteers
help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate
reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service. SKYWARN spotters
provide essential information for all types of weather hazards including
severe thunderstorms, flash floods, tornadoes and severe winter storms. The
National Weather Service and the St. Mary's County Department of Safety
encourage anyone with an interest in public service who have access to
communication, such as a HAM radio, to join the SKYWARN program. This free
class will last approximately two hours and includes the following
cirriculum: Basics of thunderstorm development, Fundamentals of storm
structure, Indentifying potential severe weat
