Set the weekend of December 10-11 aside to work some 10M DX. The 2011 ARRL 10 meter contest runs from Saturday at 0000z (Friday at 1900L) to Sunday at 2359Z (Sunday at 1759L).

This is a world-wide contest so there will be many DX stations looking for you!

Modes: both CW (28.0 to 28.3 MHz) and phone (28.3 and up).
Exchange:
W/VE stations (including Hawaii and Alaska) send RS(T) and state or province (District of Columbia stations send signal report and DC).
DX stations (including KH2, KP4, etc) send RS(T) & sequential serial number starting with 001.
Mexican stations transmit RS(T) and their state.
Maritime mobile stations send RS(T) and ITU Region (R1, R2 or R3).

You would send – 59 (599 or 5NN on CW) MD
Other US States will send their signal report and their state. Canadians send signal report and province, Mexicans send their signal report and state.
DX station send a signal report and serial number
Maritime Mobile stations send signal report and ITU region

Scoring: 2 points for each completed phone contact, 4 points for each completed CW contact.
Multiply by number of US States, Canadian Provinces, Mexican States, DXCC countries, and MM ITU regions.

A very basic and easy to run (and free) contest logger is GenLog – you can download it here: http://www.qsl.net/w3km/

Full Rules, along with a list of US States, Canadian Provinces, and Mexican States (with the appropriate abbreviations) can be found here:

Obviously this contest isn’t just for Techs, but it is one where a Tech can have a lot of fun and rack-up a lot of Q’s. As always, if you need any help understanding the rules, setting up your station, loading the logger, or submitting your log – get ahold of me and I’ll be glad to help.
