I think Boz speaks HRD....
Keep in mind that S-Link also has a built in sound card. A simple
interface for the audio and buffering the DTS signal to PTT would be
cheaper. Skip, KH6TY makes a nice kit
(http://sites.google.com/site/kh6tyinterface/) for around $30 and
BuxComm has them for the same price range, but his webpage is confusing.
West Mountain Radio has some nice ones too(
http://www.westmountainradio.com/content.php?page=RIGblaster). I
recently built one of Skip's interfaces and it works great. Skip's
interface derives the PTT signal from the sound card audio, so it does
not need a serial port for PTT. Some of the earlier interfaces (Bux, WMR
"nomic", rigblaster, etc) need a serial port for PTT and if your
computer only has USB you will need a serial to USB adapter (more cables
on your desk!) to make it work.
That being said, the SL-2 is great. One cable to the ACC jack on the
radio and an USB cable to the computer and your are there. If you
already have HRD talking to the rig for rig control, my guess is this is
the simplest way to get on. I believe there are other interfaces that
combine the rig control and sound card interface and PTT in one box.
That really cuts down the wires snarling up your shack!

Subject: [SMCARA] CAT cable, HRD, PTT
I have purchased a CAT cable for my FT-890 and have it talking to Ham
Radio Deluxe. I don't have my antenna back up yet so I haven't tried
transmitting yet, but am curious to know if HRD uses the CAT PTT to
toggle the transmitter on and off.
If so I have the materials to make the audio cable to run from my radio
to my sound card and can be digital by the end of the week. If not I may
have to fork out the money to buy a signalink and it will be next week
until I can do digital.
Thanks,
Dan -- KB3UUN
