The Department of Public Safety is monitoring Hurricane Irene and is providing the following information received during the conference call this morning with the State and local area National Weather Service Offices:

The storm is a very big and powerful storm and currently a CATEGORY 3 off the coast of the Bahamas. They are predicting that the storm will stay off shore based on current guidance. It is still at least 72 hours out and we need to continue to monitor the storm a shift to the East or West would change the predications significantly. The message today is to BE PREPARED at home and work for more information go to http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/disaster_prevention.shtml

We will continue to monitor Irene and update as necessary.
