See below from my friend K5FNI in Ganado Tejas; sounds like an idea. BTW
the price is in CENTS, not dollars. Thanks for sharing Rick

Subject: Shack lighting ideas for not very much money

Tonight, I was doing some research for low-power emergency lighting, when I
found the Web page at
http://home.comcast.net/%7Ebuck0/led.html

The text and photos at the bottom of the page surely show some good ideas
for both the home station and portable station lighting with LED high-out
devices. I went to the recommended eBay site and searched for white LED
resistor and came up with a number of "sell-now" offers from Hong Kong
distributors with good eBay reputations that averaged between $.36 and $.39
per device. Although the devices are very high light output, their viewing
angle is very narrow. It is about 12 degrees, so I look forward to using
several bulbs to cover my working area in a fanned cluster to spread the
light out. Using the ARES standard power connections would certainly allow
them to be used in emergency operating situations, where those kinds of
connectors abound. Each one comes with a resistor to allow using it on 12
volts.

So, this is a suggestion that the prices have definitely come down for
affordable, BRIGHT, white LEDs for hams to use in custom illumination
projects.
