As the two comments below confirm, our emphasis this year on VHF/UHF
is really quite important, beyond the fun of SRD. We will really have
a chance to see what the potential is in line-of-sight communication
from NWS Sterling.

We will be looking for some operators to commit to this particular
work. While we will have the option of going all night, I don't think
there will be much happening late at night until early in the
morning. Please let us know if you can work one or more of the
following times on VHF/UHF, so we can try to refine a rough schedule:

Friday evening
7pm - 9pm:
9pm - 11pm:

SKYWARN Recognition Day is now just four days away! We are really
looking forward to a great weekend of operating. Here are some
updates for you...

1. Remember, all activity will take place at the National Weather
Service near Dulles Airport, off Route 606. . If the gate is not
open, use the phone located there to gain entrance. Just say you are
with SKYWARN.

2. Still looking for volunteers with a truck and a hitch. Please let
me know asap if you can help Friday and Sunday with towing.

3. Antenna setup will begin Friday afternoon at 2pm. We need as many
people as possible to help.

4. We still have plenty of room for operators. We will be operating
from 7pm Friday night to 7pm Saturday evening. Come when you can.
Again, if you can let me know that you are planning to attend and the
hours you would like to operate, that would be very helpful!

5. SKYWARN Advisory Committee Meeting - Sunday afternoon at 2pm,
after tear down.

6. We are still anxiously awaiting the posting of Dave Manning's
license and call letters on the FCC website. This will be his first
SRD as a licensed amateur. Go Dave!!

7. DON'T FORGET TO BRING SNACKS AND SODAS.

Thanks and 73,

I note that the local Sterling, VA, NWS SRD activity will attempt to
make contact with as many counties in their County Warning Area as
possible. I would be very interested to know which counties that they
can contact on SSB, the band used, and the height of the dipole above
ground, if this kind of information is ever made public.
Thank you. Jim Hastings

Jim, you're not the only who sees the unusual value testing all
practical paths from a main site--and then analyzing the results.
One benefit Ive mentioned to Randy is simply validating the published
SERA and T-MARC repeater lists: Some listed repeaters are not
(always) on the air; and, to actually test the coverage of those that
are will produce one valuable list.
