Edwin Kessler, 88, the first director of the National Severe Storms
Laboratory and one of the pioneers in the development of the Doppler Radar,
has died in Austin, Texas.
Kessler became the first director of the National Severe Storms Laboratory
of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, headquartered in
Norman, in 1964, and served until his retirement in June 1986.
