Thanks for this information, Rick. For those outside the OUN service area,
how is your NWS office using amateur radio?

It's copied below for your emergency management and Skywarn partners:

Amateur Radio Severe Weather Operations

National Weather Service – Norman, OK

Spring 2016

Daily Operations

NWS Norman will read the Hazardous Weather Outlook on the SWIRA linked
repeater system, and on the 145.410 Oklahoma City repeater when any part of
the WFO Norman county warning area is included in a slight risk or higher
in a day one, two or three severe weather outlook.

Severe Weather Operations

Here’s what you can expect from NWS Norman before and during severe weather
events:

   -

we intend to monitor amateur radio before and during severe weather
operations. If we do not respond on amateur radio, please call our office
at 405-325-3816 or contact us using NWSChat

   -

when possible, we will provide information and answer questions
regarding current or expected weather as requested by any amateur radio
storm spotter group or emergency management agency to assist in severe
   weather operations and decision making

   -

we will solicit and accept reports of severe weather and weather-related
   damage

   -

we will continue to provide information as needed to support emergency
management or public safety agencies with their response and recovery
efforts following significant severe weather events

   -

it’s important to remember that your most comprehensive source of NWS
warnings and other severe weather information 24 hours day is NWSChat.
Local net control stations should feel free to use information provided via
NWSChat, our web page or any other official NWS source to provide updates
to your spotters on watches and warnings or any other weather information
that might be helpful to their operations
