Good Morning South Florida EM and SKYWARN Partners:
An update on expected conditions today, focusing on the potential for heavy
rainfall and flooding:
- A *Flood Watch is in effect for metro SE Florida until 10 PM*. This is
for the potential for additional rainfall of several inches in some spots
today which would aggravate existing flooding from yesterday's rains.
Today's weather pattern is largely unchanged from yesterday, and we are
currently seeing a few areas of torrential rains along the coast of Palm
Beach and Broward counties. Exact locations of the heaviest rain will be
very difficult to pinpoint due to the erratic and slow motion of the
showers and storms. Computer models are showing a variety of
scenarios...which means that any location in South Florida could experience
locally heavy rainfall and flooding today. There's the possibility of east
coast rains tapering off some this afternoon as the activity shifts
slightly west, but we're not extremely confident in this scenario. *Therefore
we are calling for the heavy rain potential to linger for most of the day
for the east coast metro areas *(keeping in mind the chance that conditions
could improve some this afternoon).
*For interior and SW Florida*, the mostly dry conditions this morning will
not last long and by afternoon we expect showers and thunderstorms to
develop and cover most of the area. Flooding is not as much of a concern in
this area, but still be on the lookout for localized flooding along with
frequent lightning strikes and gusty winds.
