I'm Ben, I'm a certified Skywarn spotter from Floyd county, KY. I'm
registered with my local WFO in Jackson, KY. I received my basic and elite
spotter training early last year a few weeks after two nearby towns here in
eastern KY were devastated by a pair of tornadoes March 2, 2012, but I just
stumbled across this mailing list today (linked from skywarn.org, which I
in turn discovered on Facebook).
I'm a network engineer (IP network, not RF) for a small cellular company in
my region, so I'm somewhat of a tech geek already, and now that I'm getting
more and more involved in storm spotting and have seen what a useful tool
amateur radio can be in this capacity, I'm leaning more toward learning all
I can about it and maybe 'getting my feet wet' with some training and
equipment. Any info in this area and/or suggestions on how to get started
would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Ben Welch
