Greetings,
I have been looking at your website over the last few weeks and decided I should join to look for information and see if SKYWARN could help us out up here in Canada.
A few years ago, Bob Robichaud Meteorologist at the Atlantic Storm Prediction Centre in Dartmouth NS came to our club after listening to us on a scanner using ham radio to pass messages after an ice storm here in the Maritimes. This was also after Hurricane Juan which did much damage here in Nova Scotia that same fall and White Juan which followed during that winter dumping 100cm of snow in Halifax NS in one day..
He studied and pass his amateur exam using the callsign VE1MBR. Bob came to talk to our club which puts on monthly EMO exercises (Exercise Handshake) to talk about CANWARN (CANadian Weather Amateur Radio Network).
We all decided to start CANWARN here in Nova Scotia as more and more hurricanes were coming our way each year. At the same time he thought it would be a good idea to add a winter program for CANWARN.
Over the past few years now we have activated for hurricanes and winter storms. Over the last two weekends Feb.9 and 16th we were activated for 14 hours each weekend. Recaps of nets can be found on the Maritime Amateur website in CANWARN News.
I have looked at your website many times to see if there is anything we can learn from your group as we are still learning the ropes up here. I have joined with you to learn from SKYWARN and give you information about what we have up here.
CANWARN is hit and miss here in Canada. There is no central point, so I have gone ahead and started a webpage for CANWARN. Since the two storms this month, I have added a twitter feed to see if it can come in handy during storms. Still experimenting with this.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you soon,
73,
