*Super Storm Spotter Training Session: "Tools for the Spotter's Situational
Awareness"

*This presentation will discuss the concepts of severe storm formation and
evolution. Key concepts will be illustrated using recent and historical
storm pictures and video segments. Gary will highlight diagnostic tools to
assist the spotter in evaluating the convective environment, and in turn,
anticipate storm behavior in addition to interpretation of radar signatures
with respect to visual storm features and severe weather locations. The
presentation will conclude with a case study review of a 2012 severe
weather event.
Gary Woodall is the MIC at the National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast
Office in Phoenix. He received his BS in Meteorology from FSU in 1985, and
his MS in meteorology from OU in 1988. Gary has developed storm spotter
training materials that are used nationwide by the NWS and is considered by
many to be one of the top spotter trainers in the country. He is an adjunct
faculty member at Arizona State University, where he teaches a survey-level
classes on the concepts of severe storms forecasting.
