I was using a service called StormNow (also known as StormWarn) for
email notifications on severe weather for my area. It was valuable and
99% of the time I got the warnings simultaneous with the alerts that
came over the air. I was a customer for most of the 14 years it was in
operation.
They're shutting down operations effecting the 1st of April. If any of
you were using it, you should be getting a refund.
I would send these notifications to a mailing list so that dozens of
users (ham operators, EMAs, scanner listeners, anyone who wanted them)
could receive these alerts.
I've been looking for a service similar to StormWarn in order to
replace it, but either they limit the number of counties, limit the
number of warnings to receive, or spammed me with non-essential info.
the iNWS someone posted earlier looks promising. If anyone else has
suggestions for services to use I'd appreciate it.

A Notice to Our Customers
StormNow will be ceasing operations effective April 1, 2012.
We are proud of our legacy and the years we have been given the
opportunity to provide this life-saving service to our community. But
changes in technology along with other factors have marginalized the
need for our offerings.
It is our hope that in giving you these two months of advanced notice,
you will have time to find a satisfactory replacement service prior to
our closure; please respect that we will not be able to provide any
vendor-replacement recommendations. Also note that for those on the
monthly auto-payment plan, the last monthly charge will be made during
the first week of March after which we will be deleting all auto-
charge records from our system.
We are also prepared to send a refund check to all customers who meet
all three of the following qualifications:
• Have $2.00 or more in their StormNow account at the time of service
termination
• Have updated (if necessary) their StormNow account settings with
their current mailing address
• Have requested a refund from the DataSwitch Administrative Help
Desk prior to April 6, 2012
Refund checks will be mailed out to all customers who comply with the
above requirements on or before April 30, 2012.
Following our closure on April 1, we will be selling our NOAA Port
configuration, which includes a 12 foot dish, LNB, Feed Horn, Novra
S-300 receiver, associated cabling and hardware, and fully configured
LDM Linux-based processing server.
This is a very robust configuration that is fully setup and is very
well documented. If you are interested in learning more, please
contact the DataSwitch Administrative Help Desk prior to April 6, 2012.
It has been a pleasure serving you for the past 14 years.
Sincerely,
The StormNow Team
