Oh, boy...
Same problem here. I saw a note go out about a past Skywarn training about
twenty minutes from here so I replied to the poster, a meteorologist for
NOAA and mentioned it would have been good to know BEFORE the class. He
sent me a link to the announcement page, which I checked daily for two
years. They still had training, they still didn't tell anyone about it...
FINALLY, I called the head meteorologist, about a week before a class,
fortunately, and he gave me the details and location. I checked the
announcement page, STILL no mention of training.
I called the training center to get directions, THEY had no idea training
was going to happen.
I drove to that location, just in case, they were closed...
Finally, someone showed up! I got "trained". I didn't learn anything I
didn't know, but got my spotter number. I checked the website again, still
no mention of training, in fact, in three years, the announcement page has
never announced a training session.
Other than that...
Nets - Dead.
Packet - Dead
Newsletter - Dead
E-Mail reflectors on QTH and Yahoo - Dead.
Meterological events, strong wind, gusts, limited visibility due to dust,
rain, snow, hail, smoke, flash floods, microbursts, squalls, the norm.
But, at least I got my spotter number...
What you need to do is call or visit in person your local NOAA office and
talk to the head meteorologist, not a flunky intern.
