[Skywarn] "Weather Display"

My daughter, WD8KVD, recently pointed out that La Crosse Technology had
their WS-2315 weather station on sale at a very good price. I grabbed one,
as my old Heath is still dead. (Don't know if they're still on sale or not
- check at http://store.yahoo.com/lacrosse-htawi/lacrws2315ch.html ). They
also send a CD-ROM with a computer display program.

(Note - the WS-2315 can be used with its sensors either wired or radio on
433 MHz up to a max of about 80'. Using it wired, low power VHF [50 w on
144 MHz] doesn't bother it, but high power FSK441 or JT65 emissions on 144
cause the remote readings to go haywire, and even less power on 50 will do
it. Bypassing hasn't helped. But it's no worse than some other units I've
used).

The La Crosse units do not output their data in an APRS format, and the
company has no plans to offer such a program. However, they said to check
on "Weather Display"
at <http://www.weather-display.com>www.weather-display.com from New
Zealand. This program can take the output of nearly any brand weather
station that has RS-232 output and make APRS-type data available. In
addition, the computer displays are some of the most beautiful weather
displays I've seen. The down side is the price - $65 USD. The file is
large, 6 MB, and it's fully functional for 30 days without being
registered. It has more features than I've had time to wade thru, and far
more than I can ever use here. Also, running Weather Display and UIView
requires quite a bit of a computer's resources.

We have no connection with either of these companies, but have found this
combination to be very interesting.
