Jeff,
I agree with you, however for folks that purchased their K3 assembled it might be a question of confidence. As you say most options are easy, although a few are a bit more interesting - for instance the DVR mounts behind the front panel and a small challenge.
The other question about going this route is what to do with the stripped K3. Economically, it could be more advantageous to sell some version of the K3 in order to recoup the most value. Unless you have a need for a 10watt stripped K3, e.g to drive a transverter or to use as a remote K3 to control the new K3S.
In any case Elecraft has got people talking!
Cheers,
Pete

It is a very simple job to take a K3 apart to swap the parts, install mods, or upgrades. Also The 200$ doesn’t include the shipping/insurance to Elecraft . It’s a lot of money for a simple 30 minute job.An elecraft product owner needs to be able to take their K3 apart, just so you can install the hardware mods that pop up. If you can’t do it find someone local to do it for you. It will save you a lot of aggravation. I will offer my assistance with any of this when I’m up there for the summer. Just ask.... 73 Jeff kb2m From: KI4KWR - Steve Molo Sent: Monday, February 06, 2017 10:16 AMTo: 'South Jersey DX Association' Subject: [SJDXA] Elecraft Deals Here is what was being Offered at FrostFest in Richmond this past weekend. I expect the same or better this weekend in Orlando. Also there is a K3S Special coming that was explained to me briefly and would be released this weekend too. All they knew was buy a K3S and if you have a K3 send it to them and they will take out all the K3 goodies and put it in the K3S and refurb your K3 for $200….sounds like winner to me. If I hear something I will pass it along for sure.
