Team,

Not sure if everyone knows that I host a packet cluster node that has flown
the SJDXA banner going back to the days of the KXA cluster node. For those
that knew Jim, KXA, life was simple, you flew by his rules and you knew
exactly were you stood at all times, so back in the day, I ran a digipeater
to Jim's node so local users in Ocean County could have a solid connection
and not cause flaps on his node.

Then came cable modems and I worked with K1XX and established the first ever
packet cluster connect via cable modem tunneling AK1A packetcluster through
a dos based operating system called nos. At the time, newbies used mice,
what a concept. Yes young operators, dos could and did support TCP\IP and
tunneling and was very reliable.

All this evolved into DXspider and I still maintain and run the
packetcluster node and it is open to all via telnet and it flies the SJDXA
banner when you sign in. My node is a bit different from most. It connects
to 2 nodes in Europe and 3 nodes in the US so if any node drops, we do not
loose traffic. At a local level, the node connects to 2 cable modems on 2
separate and diverse fiber optic nodes back to a cable tv headend. Both
cable tv nodes have back up battery power. The node computers in my home
are on a ups with 3 hours of run time and have generator backup to critical
equipment at home, ham stuff, beer fridge and heater, with automatic
transfer and generator start should JCPL fail. It is pretty solid and over
the Christmas week, I did a defrag on the primary computer which is mirrored
by 2 other computers should one fail and I found that the node has passed
just over 12 million spots since I put in service.

Please feel free to connect to the node and remain connected for how ever
long you may want. Please feel free to add the connect shortcut to the
SJDXA website. Telnet ke2oi-dxc.dyndns.org Port 7300. If using telnet, I
recommend folks download a telnet client called Putty as it is much better
than the windows client. Any filtering questions or node questions, pop me
an email. I haven't had a radio connection for several years on 2 meters
but have been thinking about putting that back into service. 1200 baud
seems a bit slow in this day and age though!

Please let reach out with comments or questions and see you in the pile ups!

John KE2OI
