After hearing from Bob (ARP), the initial problem with Jeff's K3 was that
the radio would not transmit. The "IF" problem that was found would also
prevent the radio from transmitting. As such, it is entirely possible that
the radio had this problem before we got it, or perhaps when we first turned
it on, well before any amplifiers were even turned on. In any event, it
turned out to be a relatively easy fix and TNX to Jeff for his kindness, and
to Bob (ARP) for doing the repair AND mod for Jeff.

All's well that ends well.
