Success!

This morning I swapped the AV-640 for the R8. I left the dimensions as
the set up called for. The book also calls for leaving the top hats full
size rather than cutting them as shown in the manual.
I only had to adjust 40 20 and six.
I over shot on 40 and under shot on six depending on how you look at it.
20 was close enough to use.
Due to the multi band nature, if you get too far off frequency on some
of the bands like six it gets a bit strange, which is where the VNA is
really handy in setting up the bands.
I still need to shorten the radiator a couple inches for 40 meters and
lengthen it about an inch or so on six, but both are currently close
enough to use without an auxiliary tuner.
I think I may have mentioned that I can let the antenna down, make
adjustments and crank it back up into position in just over 5 minutes,
but I do show that winch handle a lot of respect.
So...where were all you guys on 6 this afternoon?

Actually after I let the R-8 down and disconnected the guy lines "some
one" ran over both screw in anchors with the lawn mower. I've gotta
pull the mower deck, but I have a feeling that it was harder on the deck
and spindle bearings than it was on the anchors. Those anchors are 1/2"
spring steel rod with a triangular top with the rest coiled up so they
can be screwed into the ground. They are about 18" over all in length.
The mower deck straightened out the tops and part of the coiled part
while pulling them completely out of the ground.
At any rate the AV640 is up and useable. It may be my backup antenna,
but after a little more tweaking comes the top section for the 25G and
the tribander. I've pretty much decided to just put up the tribander
and forgo the WARC 7. I'd rather concentrate on the 3L 4 and 7L 6-meter
antennas
