You can get a 15KW natural gas or LP for about $3600. 20KW for $4000. To get an idea go to Amazon and search for Generac Guardian. I have the 15KW set to LP. I have a 325 gal tank up behind my pool. The LP heats the pool, runs 2 propane fireplaces the grill and generator. Two weeks ago power was out for three days. No problem at my place as the transfer switch kicked in and it was just like being on the mains.

I see small 3000W on Craigslist out my way for a few hundred and they run off grill tanks.
