Whoa there Les, you're definitely dating yourself with that comment ;)

Ditto on cndx out west here in the Mojave Desert of SoCAL. The June VHF contest was great as was much of June with several coast to coast openings. I almost doubled my grid count worked in June alone. Saw a few spots of Alaska for which I still need during the June timeframe but just could not pull it off (yeah Joey, even with the big amp and 7els :)

July has been a real disappointment except for a couple of real small quick openings for new grids up the West Coast into NorCAL, OR and WA. I haven't heard anything for the last week and the VHFDX.NET maps have been very bare for my area. I was sure hoping to get a couple of more big openings before packing it away for the season. I guess we just used it all up in June, hihi.

The Worldwide TV and FM DXing Association (WTFDA) has a poll and discussion 
on this same topic running on their website now.

The majority of DX'ers seem to favor John's assessment of the 2011 E-Skip 
Season. June was one of the best months that anyone can recall on 2 Meters. 
The ARRL June Contest here provided nearly non-stop e-skip openings, and 
more importantly they shifted several times during the contest. This allowed 
for more and more grids to be worked. I even completed 126 grids with very 
limited operating time. VUCC in one weekend, using indoor antennas is 
certainly worth noting.

July has been very poor. Horrible conditions for the CQ July Contest, which 
seemed more like a January ARRL VHF event, and only brief openings during 
the rest of the month. Hoping that it will improve in the waning days, and 
into August, but I have doubts.

6 was also noted to open here much earlier in the year, with openings noted 
in both March and April. These were solid events, with big signals and long 
lasting E's. Very unusual.

Overall, I'd have to give it mixed reviews. As they used to say on 
Bandstand...it's got a good beat, but the lyrics don't make sense.

Hoping 2011 has similar surprises for us, especially on 2 Meters.
