For ionospheric skip, polarization doesn't really matter; but 95%+ of all contacts made on 6m are not ionospheric, they're tropospheric and for all those you really need horizontal polarization.
 
Verticals are used for FM/repeaters.
 
Put up a small beam, or even a rotary dipole, and you'll make a lot more SSB contacts.

 YES technically it will work,  However, You ill lose 20db of gain in the
difference between Vertical & Horizontal antennas. YES U can make    " SOME
" contacts,  But in the long run you will miss a lot of them with a vertical
antenna.
