I was talking about the X9000; I merely use the Syntor name as a shortened
typing.....N5STK down the street has two of them.....I checked them on my
R2670 service monitor....BUT the parts are hard to find, programming
software is NOT in the public domain and is illegal to have if you don't
have the license from Mother M, etc..Also understand about the need for
DOS/Win98 machine for the RSS. Of course these days, I run Astro P25 RSS for
my Spectra Astros and the Quantar P25 repeaters I have on Windows XP but
have had my issues with Motorola, Midland and others software, etc (one of
the Quantars is on my 444.5 freq :) System 90 is the head with multilayer of
buttons and different personalities (Like the GE S825 head on the Delta S/SX
and Rangers)....and allows some change up in the channel config etc. MUCH
more than a standard head...but I still say the Midlands beat them hands
down...Tested Syntor X9000 and Midland 70-0526 on 6mtrs...the Midland could
hear farther and better than the Mother M...Noise Blanker in the Midlands
beats ANYTHING I have worked on in 35+ yrs of Mother M (the MICORs on LB
were the WORST with their Extenders...always broke into oscillation and
overloaded the main channel...GE MASTR II or Midland on same antenna?? Not
an issue)

Chris,

He was asking about the Syntor X9000, totally different beast...

The X9000 is RIB and RSS programmings, not a Sys 90 system, and not a memory

module. However, there is plenty of aftermarket software that other
enterprising folks designed for programming the EEprom in the Syntor X.

As a matter of fact i have a UHF repeater here that i help maintain that i
built from a pair of Syntor X's, just pull the memory module, open it, pull
EEprom and erase and burn a new image to using my Willem programmer and toss

it back together and its on the air. No fuss, just a little time tinkering.

I use a program i found on the net that a couple hams wrote to generate a
.bin file with the frequency info, aka the codeplug, to burn to the EEprom.

I can program an X9K in about 10-20 minutes, just depends on how many
channels, aka modes, that you want in the radio. I can upgrade them from 32

to 64, or 128 modes as well just by swapping chips.

The programming cable for the X9K is a little tough to find as it uses a "T"

cable, its a passthrough connector that goes between the control cable and
the radio. I don't bother using that setup anymore and just add a pigtail
with a DB9 to the control cable, that way all i need is a DB25 to DB9 cable
from my RIB to program it.

However!! The only drawback to the X9K and its software is needing an OLD
and SLOW computer as it gets fussy when you get too fast. Too fast being
25Mhz or more! My last programming laptop died and my "new" one running at
50Mhz doesn't like to cooperate with the X9K all the time, but if i turn off

the Turbo and run it at 25Mhz i can usually get it to work unless i get a
radio with old firmware and slow chips. The later models had faster access
times on the EEproms and they work marginally better, also the radio boots a

bit faster.

Anyway, i used to have a ton of X9K's and i'm pretty familiar with them. At

one time i had a stack of lowband, vhf, and uhf in the mobile, along with
another stack in the shack for vhf and uhf.

73,

Scott
