[SixClub] Best Mobile 6M Antennas?

A 1/2wave antenna on 6 will NOT be a 50ohm antenna...it will be a HI-Z
antenna requiring a matching network....
And can easily be affected by low Z surroundings...not worth the effort. On
CB it is a 1/4 wave antenna and thus is a 50ohm match...but on 6? Unless you
had a matching network at the base, it wasn't working worth a flip....SWR
was 20:1.

In the 70's there was a model of the "Francis" (Orange color) fiberglass CB
antenna that was 108" when used with a heavy duty spring on a bumper mount &
in a pinch can be used on 6M with power reduced, as the antenna was made for
CB radio use (Without the spring, it is ideal for CB use.), I had two of
these in my CB radio days mounted on the back of a 70 Ford Torino GT coupe,
after I sold the car & mounted the antennas on the bumper of a pickup, it
took one low clearance overpass to knock off the top several inches of one
whip.
Both antennas survive, the undamaged one is still occasionally used for 6m
(But not that often, as it is simply too long & the end needs an anchor
strap to my pickup cab in order to keep from hitting tree linbs &
overpasses, which may make it closer to a horizontal plane & closer match
SSB 6m when low power is used.).
