What I would do is take a coax relay and put it on the Ranger.  One  
side to the antenna the other to a dummy load.  Using a small 12V  
relay, tie the ptt  from the acc port on your FT-847 to the coax  
relay on the Ranger.   When you key the FT-847 the Ranger  
automatically switches out of line to the dummy load.

Two tips:
1 set the coax relay up in fail safe mode
2 make sure your relay has good isolation between ports
