It's not quite that bad. Actually something would need to go wrong to even
have enough voltage at the antenna to draw an arc...except off the end.
It's all relative: <:-))
Running 750 watts, which I get out of my HL-1.5KFX on six, the signal is not
as strong as what I get with 100 watts into the 7L C3i at 115 feet. C7-50 =
12.8 dbi, or 10.7 dbd = >1100 ERP or 33% more ERP than the 750 watts into
the vertical.
I look at it this way: In the car if you key the mike and the tires don't
skid, it's QRP.
On HF if you key the mike and the lights don't dim, it's QRP On VHF and UHF
if you can't see which way the beam is pointed at night by looking at the
neighbors fluorescents, it's QRP. <:-))
On my AV640 Vertical 750 watts means, "IF I can here them I can probably
work them". With 100 watts it takes a good band opening with no competition
to work 'em. IOW the AV640 leaves a lot to be desired on six, but it does
work well on 40. Part of that, no doubt is due to the vertical being close
to some big, green, RF absorbing, trees. That aside a dipole has twice the
power in the favored directions than does the vertical. OTOH With 100 watts
I worked a guy in Honduras a couple years back who was bench testing a new
rig with a piece of wire laying on the workbench.
