[SixClub] Beam or Wire?

I am new to 6 meter radio and am in the process of saving for a rig. My 
question is about which antenna to go with. My interests are for all 
mode communications with a definite contesting interest. Should I go 
beam or wire? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for either? I 
believe that the beam with rotation capabilities will be the way to go, 
but I wanted a more seasoned operator input.
